Title: A STUDY OF AGRICULTURE LAND EXPANSION AND DEFORESTATION IN PROTECTED AREAS USING MULTITEMPORAL REMOTE SENSING DATA: A CASE STUDY OF PINEAPPLE AND RUBBER TREE PLANTATIONS
In the past, Thailand was covered with dense forest distributed all over the country except in some area in the central part where the forest was removed for agricultural area. The lost of forest area in Thailand is caused by deforestation as a result of agriculture expansion into the forest area by human activities. The deforestation is occurred widespread in protected area of Thailand. In the light of hope, the researcher proposes to extract the multi temporal satellite data to investigate the relationship between forest change and crop cultivation pattern for analysis. Multi temporal 8 days composite of MODIS surface reflectance are used for study agriculture expansion and deforestation. NDVI Time series datasets are performed in eight years and used for analysis using TIMESAT software. The researcher found the crucial problem of cloud effect in NDVI Time series datasets while doing data analysis. NDVI data values in rainy season were not stable. Even thought, the researcher has used the Quality Assurance information for analysis, but data was not reliable. From this reason, there are a few possibilities to use NDVI Time series datasets for doing the research. Thus, the result of study is not complete.
