Title: Optimal Location of the Park Allocation Using Linear Programming

Type: Thesis

Despite the fact that people should access topark, the number of parks and size of park are not sufficient for people inmany urban areas. The main objective of this study is to identify the most appropriate location for the new public park based on the demand of people. The service area of park based on different traveling mode is used to assess the lacking area of park distribution in Bangkok. The high overlapping of the service area of park is strong in the center of Bangkok. There are 6 districts from 50 districts of whole Bangkok without existing parks. Most districts haveone or two parks and the lacking area around 31-50 percent of the area. Inaddition, the most lacking area is in the suburb. Therefore, this study chooses Bang Bon district because of the most lacking area and no park in order to identify new park location. Service area evaluation of parks focus on the park accessibility assessment following standard of park accessibility without thepotential of the park size and population consideration. Integrating transportation problem model is developed to assess sufficiency of the possible parks for the number of populations by using Linear Programming. The park size and populationare considered in this step. All 77 potential area can be improved to serve asthree park types to 68.36 percent of whole population in Bang Bon. The service area of new parks almost covers all this district. However, park size can ableto serve 68.36 percent of all population. Total park size of all potential area is 614,601 square meter which can serve 68,289 people. When each park type issimulated into maximum size, only five possible community parks can serve more other park type, at 87.20 percent. However, maximum park size is still notenough. Then, this study simulates park location cover all Bang Bon area. Thus,Bang Bon area should have 278 new pocket park or 46 new neighborhood parks orboth 46 new neighborhood parks and 57 new pocket parks in the recommend area.Hence, these parks can serve almost all population in Bang Bon. Locations ofnew parks in this study is guidance only to lead the solving park accessibility problem to depend on the demand of people.
